David S. LaPensee LCSW, LICSW, ACSW is a social worker, psychotherapist, specializing in individual, couples, and family therapy, and maintains a private practice at Psychological and Psychiatric Services 1211 N. With over forty years of experience (with two years additional, pre-MSW internship experience) as an individual, child, marriage, and family therapist, I specialize in systemic types of psychotherapy, I am currently serving as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among my areas of expertise are marriage counseling, child therapy, adolescent therapy, ADHD in children and adults, depression, anxiety, sex therapy, gambling, drug and alcohol issues, internet pornography addiction, and a host of other specializations, derived from my long experience as a therapist.
In addition to being an experienced relationship therapist, I have presented at conferences and to general audiences speaking on the topics of adolescent issues, divorce recovery, and drug-free workplaces. I have provided Critical Incident Debriefing interventions for companies, universities (MIT), and agencies in Massachusetts, including after the Boston Marathon bombing. I can accept EAP and insurance clients from Massachusetts.
I am an interactive, solution-focused therapist. My therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, I work with each individual, family, or couple to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to achieving. I try to develop a highly effective therapeutic alliance, which research has shown to be the key ingredient, in terms of therapeutic effectiveness.
